G-FEST XXXI Panels

Another pair of successful panels for G-FEST this year!

I did two panels for G-FEST XXXI. My own solo panel, "The Great Kaiju Hoax of 1947," was well attended on Sunday and the third installment in what has been a series of G-FEST panels examining the intersection of Forteana and Japanese genre fiction. My second panel consisted of an informal discussion between prof of Japanese literature Jeffrey Angles and myself on "The Earliest Kaiju Fiction."

Truth be told it was the incredibly positive reception to my third solo panel that motivated me to try and create some serious online presence for myself and thus this website. I had multiple people approached me at G-FEST XXXI to tell me that my panels have become a highlight of the convention, and that they are specifically looking in the program for my name. I also kept getting asked if I had a YouTube channel they could subscribe to. As Jeffrey pointed out, I apparently have fans. Weird thought. And while I like the idea of having a podcast or YouTube channel I'm also terrified I won't be any good at it. Getting up and talking to people in person is actually far less daunting for me personally. But we'll see what happens, this site is a step in that direction.
